What does S12 clarity mean in diamonds?

SI stands for ‘slightly included’ and the 2 indicates that of the two SI grades, this diamond is of lower quality.  SI2 is frequently confused with S12, but this is a mistake because when it comes to diamond clarity, the GIA scale only uses the numbers 1, 2, and 3.
