What is ideal for an engagement ring is its durability and longevity because chances are, it will be worn for quite sometime or passed down the family line. The more gold there is in a ring, the more susceptible it will be to scratches – as gold is a softer metal. The gold used in rings is normally alloyed with other metals to give it strength, stronger yellow gold rings would have more allow metal, such as 10K or 14K rings. In terms of color, yellow-gold rings are perfectly okay for engagement rings and are also quite common, the wearer would also need to take into account the gem(s) being used in the ring and what color band would best complement them and most suit their style when making a final decision.
